NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Devils Who Could Be Traded for Canucks' Quinn Hughes
The Hughes brothers want to play in the NHL together, and now there's a ton of trade rumors going around between the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils.
This all started when Jim Rutherford of the Canucks was asked at the beginning of the summer about Quinn Hughes' future in Vancouver, and Rutherford made it clear he'd be more positive about it if he could acquire both Jack and Luke.
Recently, Jack admitted at the NHLPA media tour that he does want to play with Quinn at some point during their careers, which is turning quickly into a 'when' and not 'if' situation. Expect to see trade talks pick up in a major way throughout this season and into next summer when Quinn is eligible to sign a contract extension.
Quinn responded to Jack's comments on getting the Hughes' brothers reunited. "I mean, he's my brother. What's he supposed to say, first of all? Like, 'I don't want to play with him,' you know?" Quinn told reporters Wednesday in Las Vegas, per theScore's John Matisz.
"I mean, we have contracts and whatnot. He's on a different team. Would it be fun to play with those guys at some point? Of course. I think if you guys (reporters) have brothers, you guys would say the same thing. But we do have contracts. I'm excited to be in Vancouver, and I feel like last year was a little bit of failure. So I feel like I got things to do there. And I know Jack loves Jersey, and he's got stuff to do also."
When it comes to the Devils making a splash to bring in Quinn, expect to hear names like Dawson Mercer, Seamus Casey, and Simon Nemec involved in trade discussions. The Canucks are going to create a massive hole on their blueline if they deal their captain, so Nemec and Casey seem like shoe-ins to be involved in the deal.
