NHL Trade Rumors: Pacific Division Team Linked To Rangers' Brennan Othmann

New York Rangers forward Brennan Othmann reacts during 2025 game.

The Vancouver Canucks have entered the Brennan Othmann conversation.

Multiple reports indicate growing league interest in the New York Rangers prospect, with Elliotte Friedman noting that Othmann’s name is gaining traction after his assignment to AHL Hartford.

With Canucks' Nils Höglander sidelined and the forward group seeking more finish, a Brennan Othmann trade presents a cost-controlled swing at upside without wrecking the cap sheet.

Brennan Othmann Trade Fit for Vancouver
Othmann, a 2021 first-round pick, has produced at the AHL level and still carries top-six potential. Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report listed the Canucks among the best landing spots given their need for middle-six punch and preference for affordable adds. Another trade proposal is out there that sends Othmann to Vancouver for a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick.

The price reflects both Othmann’s stalled NHL runway in New York and his real-value production in Hartford. For the Canucks, adding a a shooter who can grow alongside their core and raise the floor of a line that needs another scoring threat is attractive.

Why the Rangers Might Listen
The Rangers’ wing depth creates a squeeze that could push a change of scenery. Friedman reported that since Othmann was sent down, New York has fielded conversations about his future.

Vancouver’s case is strengthened by opportunity and fit. Othmann would get a defined role, sheltered minutes if needed, and a clear path to earn more.

If the Canucks move early, they can capitalize before the market hardens and before other suitors escalate the ask.
