NHL Rumors: Could The Flyers Trade Owen Tippett?

Philadelphia Flyers forward Owen Tippett celebrates goal during 2025 game.

Owen Tippett trade chatter popped up early, but multiple insiders say the Philadelphia Flyers are not shopping him.

Elliotte Friedman told Morning Cuppa Hockey he hasn’t heard Tippett’s name out there and believes the Flyers aren’t looking to move him.

That seems likely.

The 26-year-old is signed through 2031-32 and has opened the season on fire with five goals in six games. If you’re hoping for a Flyers Owen Tippett trade, the temperature is cool for now.

Where Owen Tippett trade talk came from
Speculation started as some around the league wondered if wing depth could make Tippett a trade chip to address other needs. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period suggested teams would poke around, which they always do when a scorer is rolling.

Friedman added useful context. He believes Tippett’s name may have come up in a single exploratory scenario, not as part of any broad shopping effort. Early rumors often stretch farther than the facts, and this feels like a case of inquiry meeting a player who is producing.

Why a Flyers Owen Tippett trade is unlikely
Tippett fits the Flyers’ timeline and cap sheet. He is 26, cost controlled for years, and already delivering. He owns three straight 20-goal seasons and is driving play under the new staff.

Moving a prime-age finisher who is scoring and signed long term rarely solves more problems than it creates. Unless an overwhelming offer changes the math, the Flyers have every incentive to ride the wave and build around his speed and shot rather than move him.
