3 Possible Trade Destinations For Oilers' Mangiapane

Andrew Mangiapane, Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers have been making moves lately with players coming off of the injured reserve. Noah Philp was placed on waivers and claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes, Cal Clattenburg was assigned to the AHL, and David Tomasek returned to the SHL. But there are still moves yet to be made as Andrew Mangiapane was a healthy scratch in the team's previous game.

If the Oilers are sitting Mangiapane over players like Trent Frederic, Adam Henrique, Curtis Lazar, and Max Jones, then there's more going on than just a personal reset. Kasperi Kapanen should be coming back to the lineup in the new year sometime and prospects like Isaac Howard and Quinn Hutson are pushing hard for NHL spots. Mangiapane is in the first of a two-year deal with a cap hit of $3.6 million AAV and has a no-trade clause he'd have to lift and is willing to. Here are some teams he could land with.

Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild have been looking to further upgrade their team. While Ryan Hartman has been mentioned as a trade candidate, the Wild, who are very good defensively, are seeking more scoring. Mangiapane is much better offensively than some of the players in the lineup every night. The Wild have enough cap space and room to spare to take on the Oilers' forward for that scoring boost. At the very least, he would be doing better than Marcus Foligno, Vinnie Hinostroza, and Tyler Pitlick and give the Wild another option on the third line.

San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks are very much in the race for the playoffs as they hold eighth spot in the West. They have been carried by about half of the team as the forward depth is arguably the worst in the league. With a couple of injuries to players like Will Smith and Philipp Kurashev, there is space and a need for a scorer to come in and help produce, whether that be on the second line or third line. The Sharks have a ton of cap space and Mangiapane would be more use than the entirety of the bottom-6 right now.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been looking to make some moves and trust is depleting for GM Brad Treliving as most of his moves haven't worked out. The team sits tied at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and a move needs to be made soon to shake things up. More scoring and a player who can contribute in the top-6 is needed. Mangiapane was dropped from a top-6 role on the Oilers because of chemistry and too many options, but he could find his way into a contributing role on the Maple Leafs over players like Max Domi and Mattias Maccelli, who the team has been trying to trade anyways.
