Red Wings Rumors: Huge Trade Offer Being Made for Canucks' Quinn Hughes
Keep an eye on the Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks, as these two teams could pull off the biggest trade we've seen in a very long time.
The Canucks are open for business, and while they've mentioned they aren't necessarily 'shopping' captain Quinn Hughes, the writing is on the wall that he's not going to re-sign, and wants to be closer to the rest of his family. Close, you ask? How about playing back at home in Michigan, for the Detroit Red Wings.
GM Steve Yzerman is well aware Hughes is out there, and has all the necessary tools to get a blockbuster trade completed. Lucas Raymond appears to be the player the Canucks want, as he's a young, NHL proven talent, he doesn't have trade protection, and he's signed long term. There's also a number of NHL ready prospects, including goaltender Sebastian Cossa, who Yzerman is willing to part with, but the Canucks don't want a package of potential, they want proven talent, so it's going to take three NHL pieces to get the deal done, and potentially one first-round pick on top of that.
"Detroit's gotta be in the mix"

Hughes has one season left on his contract at $7.8 million AAV, and at the end of last season told management he wants to eventually play with his brothers, or closer to home. Hughes played at the University of Michigan, his family still lives in the area, and one of his best friends in Dylan Larkin is the captain in Detroit. This is certainly a destination where Hughes could re-sign a long-term extension, and if you're Yzerman, you want some kind of spoken agreement that's going to take place come July.
As for the Canucks, they are open for business and are listening on just about anyone. Hughes wants to move on, he's made that clear, but respectfully, is saying all the right things in public. But, as Jim Rutherford pointed out over the summer, some things are out of his control when it comes to Hughes' future in Vancouver.
A future that could be leading him back to Michigan.
