NHL Rumors: Blues Set Sky-High Asking Price for Justin Faulk

St. Louis Blues defenseman Justin Faulk shoots the puck during 2025 game.

St. Louis is making it clear they are not giving Justin Faulk away for a small price.

Elliotte Friedman’s latest chatter has the Blues aiming for an asking price that mirrors what the Calgary Flames just pulled off for Rasmus Andersson, which is basically the “serious contender tax” in a thin defense market right now.

Blues Setting the Bar at the Andersson Trade Package

The Andersson deal set a loud benchmark: the Vegas Golden Knights landed the 29-year-old right shot for Zach Whitecloud, prospect Abram Wiebe, and two premium picks including a first and a conditional second.

That’s the neighborhood St. Louis is trying to live in with Faulk, and it’s why teams calling the Blues are reportedly hearing “big return or no deal.”

Why Justin Faulk Still Has Real Deadline Value

Faulk is older than Andersson at 33, but he hit the 1,000 NHL games milestone earlier this season, he can play tough minutes, and he’s long been trusted in special teams situations, including power play usage when needed.

Production-wise, he’s still contributing nicely. He has 11 goals, 25 points, a -4 plus/minus rating, 95 blocked shots, 99 shots, and averages 22:30 time on ice across 53 games played.

Comparing the two, Andersson is four years younger than Faulk, and he has just one year remaining on a 7-year, $45.5M contract, carrying an AAV of $6.5M.

It's a wildly high asking price by the Blues, and if they truly want the same level of picks plus a roster player, it probably only happens if a contender gets desperate or if St. Louis is willing to help the cap math. Still, it would be a shock to see a team pay the same price to acquire Faulk that Vegas did to get Andersson.
