Kraken & Blues Linked to Blockbuster Trade
The NHL's Olympic roster freeze is slated for Feb.4 and trade talks are picking up in a major way around the league. The Seattle Kraken are expected to be busy, as they are battling for a playoff spot, and are trying to find ways to reshape their core.
Former number-one overall pick Shane Wright is indeed available in the right package, and that trade could come with the St. Louis Blues. There's been multiple reports, including from The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, that links Kyrou heading to Seattle.
David Pagnotta: Re Shane Wright: From Seattle's side of things, they want an upgrade; this isn't them packaging him up for Artemi Panarin...this is Jordan Kyrou-esque, somebody in their mid 20s that is controllable - Sekeres & Price (1/23)
It's going take much from than just Wright to get Kyrou to Seattle, so if these talks do advanced past initial tire-kicking phase, look for the Kraken to upgrade their offer with a 2026 first-round pick, they have two, and one of their 2027 second-rounders, they currently sit with three.
Kyrou, 27, controls his own destiny as he has a full no-trade clause, however, once you're told you're not wanted, things can move pretty quickly, and Seattle is an underrated destination city considering their franchise is still relatively new. Kyrou's signed through the 2031 season at $8.1 million AAV, and the Kraken have over $10 million in cap space to work with this season, so could pull this proposed trade off with no issues.
Wright, 22, has another season left on his entry-level contract, and through 51 games has scored seven times and added 11 assists. Kyrou, on the other hand, has scored 11 goals and has 24 points through his first 48 games this season.
