Maple Leafs Rumors: Bobby McMann's Next Contract Details

Bobby McMann, Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in a transition year after losing Mitch Marner and bringing in a few new players as tests to try to make up for it. The defense has been banged up, goaltending has been a rotating door due to injury as well, and more moves are going to be made for the team that is five points back of a playoff spot.

While some players are playing their final season with the Maple Leafs, others will be sticking around due to their elevated play this season. Bobby McMann could very well be one of those players. The 29-year-old is having a productive season and for the most part, has solidified himself as a top-6 forward in Toronto.

McMann is in the second and final year of his deal at $1.35 million AAV, a large underpay as he has exceeded expectations. He has 16 goals and 27 points in 51 games this season and is on the top line. Darren Dreger said, "What do we think Bobby McMann is going to get on a contract extension? $4.5? $5 million bucks per year?"

In McMann's three seasons in the NHL, there are two things he has been able to consistently provide the Maple Leafs. Solid secondary scoring and physicality. He scored 20 goals and 37 points in 74 games last season with 136 hits. But this season his game has elevated, and he's only playing 40 seconds more per game.

McMann has upped his offensive production to over 0.5 points-per-game and already has 114 hits. He has done better than Max Domi, Matias Maccelli, and the rest of the forwards not named Auston Matthews, William Nylander, John Tavares, and Matthew Knies. McMann has earned a place and a multi-year extension at the number suggested to continue providing the Maple Leafs goals and hits. They can't afford to lose any more players who contribute as they have with too many middle to top-6 wingers over the years.
