Report: Edmonton Oilers making trade offers for top-9 forwards
The Edmonton Oilers have been busy on the trade market already this season, and word is, general manager Stan Bowman isn't close to being finished.
There's been multiple reports surfacing that the Oilers are making trade calls looking to add to their forward group, specifically to upgrade one of their top three lines. Bowman isn't pleased with how his forward group is aligned at the moment and wants to ensure he gives his team a chance to once again push for a Stanley Cup.
The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun recently reported on the Oilers ahead of the trade deadline and had this to say:
The Edmonton Oilers held their pro scouting meetings last week and came away with a list of top nine forwards they intend to target, both in scouting and trade talks, ahead of the March 6 deadline.
Some of those seeds have already been planted by Oilers GM Stan Bowman in conversations with teams around the league. Still, the sense right now is that most of Edmonton’s talks with teams are preliminary and nothing is imminent. A big part of that is that there are so few sellers because of the parity in the standings. Most likely, an Oilers trade will come after the Olympics.
This stems from the fact Andrew Mangiapane has not panned out as expected, and while the team is searching to upgrade their forwards, don't be surprised to see the veteran winger in play before the deadline.
Edmonton currently has $270,833 in cap space, so there's going to be some money going out to facilitate a deal. Bowman also has his 2026 second-round pick, and 2027 first-round pick, which could be in play in trade talks.
