Report: Maple Leafs Selling Ahead of Trade Deadline

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Toronto Maple Leafs have begun conversations about selling off some trade assets ahead of this season's trade deadline. Friedman doesn't expect much to get done before the Olympic roster freeze, which kicks in on Wednesday, but there's certainly going to be some roster changes coming in Toronto before the early March deadline.

Elliotte Friedman: Re Maple Leafs trade deadline: I think they're gonna put a lotta guys out there and just kinda see what the market is for them - 32 Thoughts (1/30)

The Maple Leafs have lost six straight games and have free-fallen down the standings in the Eastern Conference. There's been plenty of chatter about their roster ever since Mitch Marner left in the summer time, and now with some questionable trades Brad Treliving has made over the last several months, the heat is certainly on in Toronto.

As far as trade candidates go, the likes of Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Calle Jarnkrok, Max Domi, Bobby McMann, Morgan Rielly, Brandon Carlo, Scott Laughton, and one of Anthony Stolarz or Joseph Woll could be moved. Easton Cowan and Nick Robertson are not expected to be traded.

Treliving has had a hard time constructing a roster that fits well for Craig Berube, and after Marner left, there's been a huge gaping hole on the right wing of Auston Matthews' line, something that Domi hasn't been able to fill in the very least.

Don't be surprised to see some significant changes coming for the Maple Leafs, who moved their 2026 first-round pick to the Boston Bruins, along with budding star Fraser Minten for Brandon Carlo. The good news for Toronto is the fact the pick is top-5 protected, however, it would be very 'Leafy' for the pick to be slated at the sixth spot, and end up in Boston after a very disappointing season.

Trade coming for the Leafs, who should be moved first....Morgan Rielly?
