Breaking: Details of Gavin McKenna Alleged Assault Incident Revealed
It was shocking news on Wednesday when it was announced that the prospective No. 1 pick in this year's NHL Draft, Gavin McKenna, was facing felony assault charges, and up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The shock hasn't worn off, and now we're getting some of the ugly details of the alleged assault.
Sean Gentille reports in The Athletic that McKenna "allegedly punched a man twice after an exchange of words”, leaving the victim with a broken jaw and a missing tooth. There was a trail of blood left behind on a sidewalk in State College, Pa., near Penn State, where McKenna plays for the Nittany Lions.

The victim's friends, according to the affidavit, told the police that McKenna punched the man twice on the right side of his face, “following an exchange of words between them and the group of people that (McKenna) was with.”
In addition to the felony assault charge, McKenna is also facing a misdemeanor assault charge and summary charges of harassment and disorderly conduct.
A first-degree felony aggravated assault conviction in Pennsylvania carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine.
The 2026 NHL Draft takes place in Buffalo on June 26. McKenna has been projected to be the potential No. 1 pick. The NHL thus far has no comment on the incident.
