Maple Leafs Rumors: McMann Not Quite Worth What Toronto Is Asking For
The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly going to move on from Bobby McMann as he'll fetch a good return and they may feel like he's going to be too costly to re-sign. Whether anyone other than the organization thinks it's a good idea to trade him instead of bringing him back, the Maple Leafs are going to do what they think is best to retool the team again before next season and get back to being contenders.
James Mirtle said, "The talk out there is people think he's worth what Kiefer Sherwood got from San Jose. That was two second-round picks." The reports out there have been that the Maple Leafs think they can get a first-round pick. There may be a team willing to pay that, but closer to Sherwood's value makes a lot of sense.
Sherwood is a pending UFA like McMann and they have both had similar later breakouts in their careers. Sherwood scored 19 goals last season and sits at 17 this season after being injured for some time. McMann scored 20 goals last season and is at 19 on the season in 2025-26. The difference is where it doesn't feel like McMann is going to go for more than Sherwood is McMann has been glued to the top players on the Maple Leafs and has gotten plenty of chances to produce offensively. Sherwood plays up and played on the worst team in the league while hitting a ton. While McMann is still very physical, they're on different levels in that regard.
I think that the Maple Leafs can push for two second-round picks, but the market for a winger who can score isn't bare either. If he doesn't get traded earlier than others, it could really impact his trade value and the Maple Leafs will then be stuck with an even tougher decision as to re-sign him or trade him for much less value than they'd hoped.
It's not too easy to find scoring and players who work well with the top talent on a team, so if it's anything less than a first-round pick, the Maple Leafs would be wise to just re-sign McMann for multiple years between $4-5 million AAV.
