Panarin Trade Rumors: 6 Teams Willing & Able to Give Panarin Extension With Trade

NY Rangers star forward Artemi Panarin

The Artemi Panarin Sweepstakes carry on, with multiple teams around the NHL having serious interest in the New York Rangers' perennial leading scorer.

But the pending unrestricted free agent has insisted he doesn't want to uproot himself twice, so when he agrees to a trade, he wants it to be with an extension. And the 34-year-old has set a pretty hefty price, as Elliotte Friedman reported on Friday

Now, the Friedge has revealed the six teams that are willing — and most importantly, ABLE — to trade for Panarin, and hand out an extension.

There's no question that an extension still matters to him. I think there's some teams, hoping that that might change, but right now an extension matters to him. The teams that are interested in doing it:

  • Washington Capitals
  • Los Angeles Kings
  • San Jose Sharks
  • Florida Panthers
  • Detroit Red Wings
  • Carolina Hurricanes
He says the Capitals have been "aggressively pursuing this," while, with Florida, the insider says "there's a lot of teams wondering if the Panthers can actually pull this off." And though you can never count out Bill Zito, Friedman himself calls it "extremely unlikely."

The Sharks, as we know, are now in on Panarin, and San Jose beat writer Sheng Peng feels that the Russian star would be willing to sign with them.
Regarding the Red Wings, Friedman says that because GM Steve Yzerman doesn't like to trade for rental players, he'd be interested with an extension.

As for the Hurricanes, the insider puts them on both the "extension willing" list, and the "No extension" list, because "depending on who you talk to, Carolina is or is not interested in doing it with an extension, I think they're flexibile. It just affects what they might be willing to pay for the player."

The four teams on his list of those who would love to trade for Panarin as strictly a rental, are the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Anaheim Ducks, and, as mentioned, potentially the Canes.

The negotiations roll on into Monday, with just a couple of more days until the Olympic Roster Freeze on Wednesday.
