Former 1st-round pick Lukas Reichel gets another shot at the NHL in Boston
Former 1st-round pick Lukas Reichel has got a new lease on life in the NHL. Reichel was shipped to the Vancouver Canucks in October for a 4th-round pick in 2027.
His time in Chicago had come to an end, as Kyle Davidson and the team's patience with his ability to play in the NHL had failed to translate. He'd experience brief glimpses of brilliance in both stints with the Rockford IceHogs, where he was sent to regain confidence.
However, since he was dealt to the Canucks, he'd flounder in Vancouver as we've seen him do in the Blackhawks uniform. Reichel would play only 14 games in a Canucks jersey this season, scoring 1 assist and minus-5.
The Vancouver Canucks traded the 23-year-old winger to the Boston Bruins for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick, the teams announced Friday. https://t.co/v3XdvpPFpL

Lukas Reichel gets a lifeline with the Boston Bruins
Reichel was dealt to the Boston Bruins, who let go of a 2026 6th-round pick, which, for general manager Don Sweeney, was practically nothing.
Sweeney's act was a saving grace for the former Canuck, who will likely join the Providence Bruins in the AHL, where he'll have to work his way up into the NHL once more after struggling for so long in Chicago and Vancouver.
Reichel has played a total of 188 games in the NHL, split between the Blackhawks and Canucks, and scored 59 points (22-37) with a career minus-65.
The former 17th overall pick in 2020 will have to prove to Sweeney and head coach Marco Sturm that he's capable of shouldering the responsibilities of a full-time role in the NHL, or be forever relegated to the AHL with the P-Bruins.
