Insider Reveals 'Realistic Time Frame' For Brady Tkachuk To Decide on His Senators Future
It's been a couple of years now that people around the sport have questioned how long Brady Tkachuk will remain in Ottawa with the Senators. Rumors hit a fever pitch again after the Olympics, when the Team USA Gold Medal winner returned to play games in Canada and was met with boos and negative reactions around the country north of the border.
The Senators' captain vehemently denied any ill-feelings and professed his love for the team. But according to insider Pierre LeBrun in The Athletic, the time is quickly coming when the you-know-what will hit the fan, and Tkachuk will have to put his money where his mouth is. And an eventual trade is not out of the question.
I would bet that Brady’s brother, Matthew, is in his ear about coming to play with him in Florida...Regardless of how it all plays out, it would make zero sense to let Tkachuk walk out the door for no compensation on July 1, 2028... So, the summer of ’27 seems like the most obvious window for all these things to play out, whether that’s signing an extension with Ottawa or saying it’s time to move on.
But I’m raising the possibility of this offseason, just in case.
Tkachuk getting booed in Edmonton and Calgary last week, that’s a real thing. Maybe the Canadian reaction to Team USA and the White House visit will die down over time, but let’s not pretend it’s not a thing when it comes to Tkachuk being the captain of the team in Canada’s nation’s capital.
Tkachuk did his best to shoot down an AI-generated video in which he appears to be bashing Canada, saying that he would never even think about doing that, and that he unabashedly loves the Senators.
“That’s not even something that’s crossed my mind. I love playing for this team, I love the guys in this room, I really believe in what we’re all about, and that thought has never crossed my mind.”
Tkachuk has 42 points in 42 games this season with 110 hits. If not for missing six weeks with a thumb injury, he'd be on pace for his seventh consecutive season of delivering over 200 hits.
The Senators are currently on a 7-1-2 run, but still find themselves five points back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
