Top 3 Destinations for Head Coach Bruce Cassidy

Former Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy

Now that the stunning news of the Vegas Golden Knights firing of head coach Bruce Cassidy has settled in, there are certainly some front offices around the NHL that are seriously reconsidering their options behind the bench.

Cassidy is a great coach with a recent Stanley Cup on his resume, and it would be a surprise if some team isn't quick to jump on him. Some come immediately to mind.

Edmonton Oilers

Kris Knoblauch's job security seems extremely shaky at the moment, as the Oilers have struggled through this season. Despite the current three-game win streak, their 83 points would be a full five points back of a Wild Card berth in the Eastern Conference.

Recent passive-aggressive comments from Connor McDavid—heaping praise on Jon Cooper on how "well-coached and organized" the Tampa Bay Lightning are—further called into question Knoblauch's future.

Could the Oilers follow the Golden Knights' lead & pounce on Bruce Cassidy?

If the Golden Knights can fire their coach with just eight games to play before the postseason, could the Oilers consider doing the same and jump on this opportunity with Cassidy?

Toronto Maple Leafs

We all know what a dreadful season this has been in Toronto. Head coach Craig Berube is exasperated and seems to be running on fumes at this point. Big changes are undoubtedly in store for the Maple Leafs. Can they afford to wait this out, or should they immediately jump on Cassidy and try to beat the Oilers or any other teams to the punch?

"If he’s willing, Cassidy is a no-brainer for the Leafs," writes Jonas Siegel in The Athletic

New Jersey Devils

The Devils' season has been almost as disappointing as the Leafs'. Ironically, Sheldon Keefe, the former Leafs coach, is now on the hot seat in New Jersey. His job is in jeopardy, and there are calls for his replacement with Cassidy already emanating from Jersey.

"Is there a better option available who can elevate this roster to contender status?," writes Jonathan Riniti. "Cassidy is known for implementing structured systems that balance offensive creation with defensive discipline—something the Devils have lacked. His ability to maximize talent could unlock the full potential of New Jersey’s roster."

Those won't be the only three front offices with Bruce Cassidy on their minds today. No doubt, teams in many locations around the NHL are now re-thinking their coaching situations with the sudden and stunning availability of Cassidy. One thing is certain: The former Golden Knights Stanley Cup winning head coach won't be unemployed for long.
