3 Detroit Red Wings Who Could Be Traded This Offseason

Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman kept it real at his latest press conference, stating to the media attending that his hockey team hasn't reached expectations because 'they need better players'.

A huge statement from Yzerman, who is certainly on the hot seat this summer to turn things around in Motown. Yzerman's going to be very aggressive on the free-agent market and the trade market, and after acquiring Justin Faulk from the St. Louis Blues before the trade deadline, he'll need to land a couple more impact players to move the needle for the Wings.

Here's three Red Wings who could be traded this offseason:

J.T Compher

The Red Wings need to upgrade their top six and finding a new home for Compher could go a long way to achieving this goal. Compher has two seasons left on his deal at $5.1 million AAV, and does own a 10-team no-trade list. While it hasn't been a disaster, the Red Wings have been hoping for more out of his game, and will look to move the two-way center this offseason. Compher appeared in 82 games this season, scoring 11 goals and 28 points. Again, $5.1 million AAV.

Albert Johansson

Yzerman will need to figure out who is in and who is out, and with the need to land another top-four defenceman, Johansson is certainly becoming trade bait this summer. The 25-year-old is under contract for next season at $1.1 million, then becomes a pending restricted free agent, and is coming off a year where he dressed in 82 games, recording 11 points.

Several Prospects

With no first-round pick, and no second-round pick in 2027, look for Yzerman to move off some of his higher-end prospects. The Red Wings have been holding tight to several of their big-name prospects in trade talks, and expect that to change this summer considering the lack of top picks, and the need to make significant change to the roster.
