3 Free-Agent Destinations for Blue Jackets' Mason Marchment
After a big collapse during the final stretch of the season, the Columbus Blue Jackets have officially missed the playoffs for the sixth year in a row. This is certainly tough news for Columbus, and they now have several questions heading into the summer.
Mason Marchment is one of their top pending UFAs. Given how well he fit in following being acquired by the Blue Jackets, it would make sense if they tried to extend him. However, if he ends up hitting the free-agent market, look for these three teams to target him this summer.
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins would be a team to watch if Marchment becomes a free agent this offseason. After a strong 2025-26 season, they should be looking to continue to boost their roster. Marchment would give them a strong power forward to work with in their top nine if signed. Penguins GM Kyle Dubas also recently revealed on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast that trading Marchment during his time as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs is the trade he regrets most from his career.
Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings are another team that should be watched when it comes to Marchment. They need to add more secondary offensive production to their roster this offseason, and a player like Marchment would provide them with just that. He would also give them a much-needed power forward in their middle six and power play.
Minnesota Wild
The Wild could be another team to keep an eye on when it comes to Marchment. They will likely be looking to boost their offense this summer, and a player like Marchment would help them do just that. If the Wild signed him, he could slot nicely on their second line but could move up and down their lineup if needed due to his versatility.
