3 Potential Trade Destinations for Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly

There's a culture change coming for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in order to make the drastic changes they need in the dressing room, the team is going to need to move on from defenceman, Morgan Rielly.

Rielly's the longest tenured Maple Leaf and with a new general manager, and possibly a new head coach coming in this summer, look for Rielly to be approached about waiving his no-movement clause. Word is Brad Treliving and Rielly spoke at the end of last season in their exit interview and Treliving made it clear he needed more from Rielly or else they'll have to move him. While the trade never materialized before Treliving was fired, given where the Leafs are now, and how much they need to reshape their defense core, Rielly's very likely be moved.

The 32-year-old is signed through the 2030 season at $7.5 million AAV, and he's certainly fallen out of favor with Leafs Nation, as Rielly's been tough to watch at times this season. He continues to be a liability is his own zone, and the one time elite skater has lost a step in a major way, which is impacting his game at both ends of the ice.

David Pagnotta: Re Morgan Rielly rumours: I don't think it's a necessity to [retain salary] on this contract, and I know that wasn't part of the discussion with that one team that they talked to ahead of the deadline - Leafs Morning Take (3/23)

The Maple Leafs have Jake McCabe, Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson all coming back next season, and look for the team to move on from Brandon Carlo and Rielly. As for potential trade destinations for the former first-round pick, Rielly lives on the west coast of Canada in the summer months, so you'll want to circle the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Seattle Kraken as potential destinations, with the Canucks as the front runners.

Will Rielly be traded? We know a ton of members of Leafs Nation are certainly hoping so.
