NHL Rumors: 3 Winnipeg Jets Who Likely Won't Be Back Next Season

Gustav Nyquist, Winnipeg Jets

After winning the Presidents' Trophy as the NHL's best regular-season team in 2024-25, the Winnipeg Jets took a major step in the wrong direction this campaign. They finished the 2025-26 season with an underwhelming 35-35-12 record and missed the playoffs.

With this, changes to the Jets' roster are certainly coming this offseason. Let's look at three Jets who likely won't be back in Winnipeg next season.

Gustav Nyquist

The Jets signed Nyquist to a one-year deal this past offseason with the hope that he could provide Winnipeg with some much-needed secondary scoring. However, the 36-year-old winger struggled big time this season in Winnipeg, scoring just one goal and recording 11 assists in 51 games. The fit was simply not there, and Nyquist likely won't be re-signed by the Jets because of it.

Colin Miller

Miller is another pending UFA on the Jets who likely won't be back next season. The Jets should be looking to get younger on their blueline, and the Jets should find an upgrade over Miller this summer for their right side. In 18 games this season for Winnipeg, Miller had two assists and a minus-8 rating.

Ville Heinola

Heinola is a pending Group 6 unrestricted free agent, and there is a good chance he won't be back next season. The 2019 first-round pick has been unable to cement himself as a full-time NHL defenseman for the Jets and is long overdue for a fresh start. In five games this season with Winnipeg, he had zero points. He also had three goals and 21 points in 44 AHL games for the Manitoba Moose this season.
