Oilers' Zach Hyman won't blame goaltending despite allowing 7 Ducks' goals
Zach Hyman thinks the Edmonton Oilers have a team defence problem and not a goaltending issue.
The Oilers were downed by the Anaheim Ducks 7-4 on Friday night, going down 2-1 in their first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series, and despite the six spot by Connor Ingram, Hyman doesn't feel anyone should be pointing the finger to the Oilers' crease.
“Any time you let in seven, and it’s not a goalie problem, it’s just defending better," Hyman said postgame, courtesy of The Canadian Press. "We didn’t give ourselves a chance with the amount of goals we gave up."The Ducks put 38 shots on Ingram, however it was the Oilers' inability to concede odd-man rushes on a very regular basis throughout Game 3 that was the bigger issue. Giveaways, breakaways, 2-1's, 3-2's, it was as bad as it could be from Edmonton on Friday night.
Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch was aligned with Hyman, calling out the team's lack of defensive structure that was the issue, something the team shouldn't be dealing with this late in their season.
We'll have to wait and see if Tristan Jarry gets the call in Game 4, but regardless of who's in the Oilers' net, they need a much better collective effort to stand any chance against the high-flying Ducks.
If you’re Kris Knoblauch, is it time to discuss starting Tristan Jarry?

Connor Ingram has given up 14 goals in 3 games (.851 SV)
Something needs to change the tide in this series if you’re the Oilers#LetsGoOilers
