3 Dallas Stars Who Won't Be Back Next Season
The Dallas Stars are going home.
The Stars weren't able to keep up with the high-flying Minnesota Wild, and were ousted in six games. The Wild's fire power, speed and stellar goaltending were too much for the Stars to handle, and now Jim Nill needs to reset his roster this summer.
There's going to be significant changes in Dallas, here's three Stars who won't be back next season:
Michael Bunting
The late-season addition wasn't able to live up to the billing, as Bunting didn't make a big impact, and wound up only dressing in one Stanley Cup Playoff game. As a pending unrestricted free agent, and since there's going to be a decent market for him, don't expect to see the Stars get in a bidding war. Bunting could wind up back in Toronto this summer.
Jamie Benn
Yes, there's a chance Benn retires this summer, as his body has been through the ringer, and it could be time to hang up the skates. Benn's a free agent this summer, and at this point, it's not a guarantee that Nill makes a contract offer to bring back the Stars' captain. This could be it for Benn in Big D.
Sam Steel
The Stars don't have much for draft picks, they're low on prospects, so it's a depth player like Steel who could be moved this summer, to give their team's bottom six an overhaul. Steel doesn't own any trade protection and he has one year left on his deal at $2.1 million AAV. Don't be surprised to see him traded this summer.
