NHL Trade Rumors: Flames Trying to Trade 2 Players This Offseason
The Calgary Flames are continuing their rebuild this summer, and don't be surprise to see general manager Craig Conroy make a couple of big trades at the NHL Draft next month. Speculation is brewing that Conroy has been listening to trade offers on forward Blake Coleman, while also dangling Jonathan Huberdeau in trade talks, with a willingness to retain up to roughly 40% of his remaining contract.
Let's start with Coleman. The two-way versatile forward has one season left on his deal at $4.9 million AAV, and will submit a list of 10 teams he approves trades to. The 34-year-old Coleman was surprisingly not traded ahead of the deadline, even though the Flames moved Rasmus Andersson, Mackenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri.
Coleman finished the year appearing in 69 games, scoring 20 goals, and adding 15 assists, while playing 17:19 per game, including on both sides of special teams. Coleman also landed 152 hits, and played mostly on the wing for the Flames last season.
As for Huberdeau, he's under perhaps the worst contract in hockey at the moment. He's signed through the 2031 season at $10.5 million AAV, and holds a full no-movement clause until the start of the 2029 season. Conroy will no doubt have to retain 40-50% of his remaining contract to be able to receive some interest from onlooking teams.
Huberdeau battled injuries over the course of the last few years, and in 2025-26, dressed in 50 games, scoring 10 times, and finishing the year with 25 points. A far cry from the expectations of a player making over $10 million per season.
Look for the Flames to be active in trade talks at the NHL Draft. Conroy has a couple of moves carrying over from this season, and he'll need to be creative in trade talks to accomplish everything he's looking for this summer.
