NHL Trade Rumors: Flyers listening to trade offers on Matvei Michkov
The Philadelphia Flyers have some big decisions to make this offseason, and they include what to do with former top prospect Matvei Michkov.
This season Michkov and head coach Rick Tocchet did not see eye to eye and the promising young forward was in and out of the lineup all the way through the Stanley Cup Playoffs. At just 21 years old and another year left on his entry-level contract, the Flyers are reportedly listening to trade offers this summer, and Michkov could be used to move up the NHL Draft board next month in Buffalo.
Michkov averaged 14:50 of ice-time per game during the regular season, and was often benched late in games. He appeared in 81 games, scored 20 goals and added 31 assists. In the playoffs, the former first-round pick dressed in eight of the Flyers 10 games, averaged 11:49 of ice-time and chipped in with one assist.
Considering his age and potential, GM Daniel Briere could dangle Michkov to land a goaltender for the future, or a promising young center who can slot in on the second line. Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco is on the beat in Philly, and had this to say recently:
While the Flyers are certainly in no rush to move Michkov, it feels like he isn’t as untouchable as we once thought. Speaking with team sources earlier in the week, DFO was told that the Flyers would “listen on everyone” if it meant improving the team – which is what every good NHL team does. But given that this was said during a conversation regarding Michkov, it is at least somewhat noteworthy given that the word “untouchable” had been synonymous with him in the past.
Michkov on the move? It's more of a possible than you might think.
