Quinn Hughes Interested In Contract Extension With Minnesota Wild
Great news Minnesota Wild fans, appears Quinn Hughes doesn't want to go anywhere.
Hughes met with the media on Friday, just days after being eliminated by the Colorado Avalanche and opened up about his future in Minny. Hughes has just one season left on his current contract, and is eligible to sign a seven-year extension on July 1st. Hughes will earn $7.8 million AAV next season, and could be in line for a hefty pay raise.
I really like it here. I love the team. I love the city and the fans. Being in that lockerooom, it’s a special group. I would definitely be open to re-signing here with the guys that we have. There’s a lot of trust with Billy as well. Love Hynesy + Cappy and the coaching staff. I think it’s a great spot, great situation for me.
Guerin and the Wild have cap space to work with this summer for the first time in a long time, and are going to target a top-six center. There's been reports they've tried hard to acquire Vincent Trocheck from the New York Rangers, however, Trocheck reportedly prefers sticking in the Eastern Conference.
As for Hughes, he appeared in 48 games for the Wild this season, recording 53 points. He played close to 31 minutes per game in the playoffs, and posted 15 points in 11 games. There's no doubt he's exactly what the doctor ordered for the Wild, and now they'll need to add up front to round out the balance of their roster.
If for some reason contract talks don't go as planned, the New Jersey Devils will be waiting with open arms.
