Will The Vegas Golden Knights Move On From $6.25 M Stanley Cup Champion?

The ruthlessness of the Vegas Golden Knights front office is unmatched in the NHL.

Trading goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury for an unknown prospect, while agent Allan Walsh cried foul on Twitter. Their latest move of infamy is firing former head coach Bruce Cassidy, who took them to their first Stanley Cup win in 2023, and is preventing him from speaking to other teams

They're petty and exercise their power (overtly) when possible.

Today, as free-agency inches nearer and nearer, there remains a concern within the organization as goaltender Carter Hart's rise in the ranks under John Tortorella leaves another exposed.

Is Adin Hill On The Trade Block?

Adin Hill. The goaltender whom they originally traded for from the San Jose Sharks in Aug. 2022, for a 2024 fourth-round pick.

Hill, a former Stanley Cup champion with the Golden Knights, hasn't been named as a piece on the trade block for the team. Since the team is drowning in negative cap space: -$11.987 M per PuckPedia, moving off of a $6.25 million average annual value contract would be a great way to recapture some of that.

Hart, in contrast, costs $4 million in total contract value and has found his footing in the NHL again, and GM Kelly McCrimmon has no compunction about trading pieces that don't fit the Golden Knights mold.

Frank Seravalli believes that the Golden Knights will have to move off of him.

Hill, who has spent the latter part of his career with the Golden Knights and peaked in 2023, has fallen back to earth with below-average play and ongoing health issues. He was out due to injury from Oct. to Jan. 2026 and didn't return to goal until the 8th against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Hill played a total of 27 games this season, and had a subpar record to show for it with 10-9-6-1, 3.04 goals against-average, and an .870 save percentage.

The veteran goaltender could be on the block:

While some obstacles remain with the fallen goaltender such as his 10-team no-trade list, that shouldn't stop McCrimmon from dealing Hill. That's especially true if there's a team with plenty of cap space, such as the Chicago Blackhawks.

Though I don't agree with Vegas Hockey Knight's destination of choice for Hill, there are plenty of options out there that aren't a rebuilding team that has surplus cap space.
