Maple Leafs Trade Defenseman Brandon Carlo to the St. Louis Blues

The second day of the 2026 NHL Draft has started with another trade, as the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues combined for a trade for defenseman Brandon Carlo

In addition to the haul of talent they received the day before in Mason McTavish and Connor McMichael down the middle, they're strengthening their blueline.

The Maple Leafs Trade Brandon Carlo To The Blues

Carlo is a bruising defenseman who was acquired in a trade from the Maple Leafs for two 2026 third-round picks from the Blues.

The Leafs added to their prospect pipeline with both third-round picks in forward Zach Olsson and defenseman Mans Gudmundson.

Here's what the Leafs turned the Blues' two third-round picks from the Carlo trade into:

This is the second time in two years that the veteran defenseman has been traded. Last season, he was part of a big trade that sent him to Toronto last year, for a first-round pick in 2026, a fourth-round pick in 2025, and retained 15 percent of his salary. The Bruins received top-six forward Fraser Minten, who's been an impact player on a lineup that is being retooled.

Carlo has played 692 games in the NHL and scored 119 points (29 goals, 110 assists) as a defensive defenseman, selected 37th overall in the 2015 draft.

The Blues will add more veteran presences in a lineup that has been rebuilt by general manager Doug Armstrong, and head coach Jim Montgomery leading the way.
