Insider Links 3 Teams To Sergei Bobrovsky (+ 2 More Possibilities)

The Sergei Bobrovsky rumors continue to percolate around the water cooler. It sounds, from all accounts, that he very well might not be back in Florida with the Panthers next season.

Goalie Bob wants something like the Brad Marchand deal with term (six years), while the Panthers aren't interested in going there. If the pending unrestricted free agent makes it to July 1st without a new deal in place in Florida, the most recent report has three teams named as his most likely suitors, per insider Kevin Weekes.

Toronto Maple Leafs

We examined this one earlier this week, based on a rumor posited by Elliotte Friedman. There are plenty of connections on the Leafs, with former Bobrovsky teammates Anthony Stolarz (his backup for their first Cup win in 2024), and Steven Lorentz. Additionally, a young Russian netminder, Artur Akhtyamov, exploded onto the scene for Toronto, leading the Marlies to the Calder Cup this spring, so perhaps Bob could take him under his wing.

Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres are in the market for a goalie upgrade, and GM Jarmo Kekalainen is certainly familiar with Bobrovsky, as the two were together in Columbus for six seasons when Jarmo was the GM there. Buffalo currently has a three-goalie rotation of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Alex Lyon and Colten Ellis, but UPL and Lyon both showed their playoff chops aren't quite up to the standard that Bob has set the past several years.

LA Kings

Goaltending was a problem this past season in Los Angeles. And over the past five years, they haven't been able to make it out of the first round of the playoffs. Bobrovsky could navigate those waters for the Kings, and bring some stability between the pipes (despite his off season this year).

Other teams that have been mentioned:

The San Jose Sharks. Similar to the situation with Akhtyamov in Toronto, Bob could mentor another young Russian keeper, Yaroslav Askarov.

And then of course, there's always the Edmonton Oilers. They still haven't solved their goaltending riddle.

Bobrovsky is coming off a down year with a career-worst .877 save percentage. But that won't stop these teams with designs on competing for a Stanley Cup from being interested in the 2-time Cup winner.
