San Jose Sharks Shopping No.2 Overall Draft Pick

The San Jose Sharks had a busy Tuesday, dealing winger William Eklund to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for the ninth-overall draft pick at Friday's NHL Draft from Buffalo. Turns out the Sharks aren't finished.

According to multiple insiders, the Sharks are listening to trade offers on the second-overall pick. General manager Mike Grier needs defenceman and just lost one of his best young wingers, so the Sharks' exec will try to get as creative as possible to land some immediate roster help.

Several teams have reached out to Grier with their offers, and this is likely one of those trade situations where the Sharks wait until as close to the draft table as possible before pulling the trigger. There's been a wild amount of trade talk so far this summer as the rising salary cap is certainly playing into everyone's favor for more transactions.

The Detroit Red Wings are trying to trade Dylan Larkin, would the Sharks be interested? The Winnipeg Jets are shopping Connor Hellebuyck, would Grier consider including Yaroslav Askarov in the deal. There's also Zach Werenski on the trade market, who would like very nice in a Sharks uniform alongside Macklin Celebrini.

The Sharks are going to make a move, there's no doubt about it, it's just either going to be moving the second, or the ninth overall pick. They only have three defencemen signed to NHL contracts for next season, so you know they're trying to use their draft capital to push their young up-and-coming roster over the hump. Expect to see Grier interested in signing free agents Rasmus Andersson and Jacob Trouba as well.
