Jets & Sabres Linked to Blockbuster Offseason Trade

Keep an eye on the Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets, two teams that have done business together in the past, and their biggest move of all could be coming next.

There's been a ton of reports flying out of Winnipeg that Jets' goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has informed the team he's open to a trade, but hasn't formally requested one. The Olympic star goaltender is 33 and is signed through the 2031 season at $8.5 million AAV. Hellebuyck owns a full no-movement clause for this season, which changes to a 10-team approved list next July.

The Sabres are a team that Hellebuyck would be open to joining, as Tage Thompson and him are close off the ice. Buffalo's up and coming roster is a team that if Hellebuyck joins them, and is back to the Vezina trophy skill level everyone's used to, the Sabres could be a major player in next season's Stanley Cup Playoffs.

As far as the trade package goes, the Sabres would be likely offering Luukkonen, who has three years left on his deal at $4.7 million AAV. Along with UPL, Buffalo would have to include a significant package, involving the No.4 overall pick that was just acquired for Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway, in a blockbuster move Tuesday with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Hellebuyck to the Sabres? It's heating up and could be finalized before Friday's NHL Draft.
