NHL Trade: Senators Acquire Andre Burakovsky From Blackhawks

The Ottawa Senators are bringing in a two-time Stanley Cup winner, executing a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks for 12-year veteran forward Andre Burakovsky.

In exchange, the Hawks receive a 2027 sixth-round pick.

Burakovsky is heading into the final year of his $5.5M deal. It's a pretty hefty cap hit for a bottom-six 11-goal scorer, and one has to wonder if there's another player going out in another deal for the Sens. The team currently has about $9 million in cap space but still has some UFAs and RFAs to deal with.

Some were suggesting that Burakovsky might have been a buyout candidate for the Hawks, but they were able to secure an asset in return in this trade.

Since a solid 2021-22 season, in which he notched a career-high 22 goals and 61 points while contributing to a Stanley Cup run for the Colorado Avalanche, Burakovsky has struggled to just crack double-digits in goals most seasons.
He finished this past year in Chicago with 11 goals and 33 points with a minus-32 rating.

The former first-round pick (23rd overall in 2013) was also part of the Washington Capitals' 2018 Stanley Cup team.
