Oilers' Darnell Nurse Would Accept Trade To Atlantic Division Team
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported during the second day of the 2026 NHL Draft that the Boston Bruins have been added to Nurse's approved trade list.
"More on Nurse: As we know, Pittsburgh, LA and Philly are in his trade list," Pagnotta posted on X. "You can add Boston to his list, as well."
That makes Boston the fourth known team Nurse is willing to waive his no-movement clause for, joining the Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, and Philadelphia Flyers.
The Leverage Nurse Holds
Nurse requested a trade from the Edmonton Oilers this summer, but his full no-movement clause means he controls exactly where he can be dealt, and that leverage has shaped the entire process.
Friedman provided additional context during the draft, noting Nurse submitted a list believed to include Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Boston, while the Oilers have been hoping the list might expand.

Kurt Leavins believes Nurse’s situation is holding up Oilers management’s roster plans for next season.@KurtLeavins
That has become the central tension.
Per Frank Seravalli, Nurse currently will not expand his list beyond his preferred teams, which has prevented Edmonton from generating a bidding war and gaining traction in talks, since none of the approved teams feel pressure to outbid themselves for a player carrying a significant contract.
Why the Fit Is Questionable for Boston
The complication is that Nurse does not address Boston's most pressing needs.
The Bruins are looking for a first-line center and a top-four right-shot defenseman.
Nurse is a left-shot defenseman, and the Bruins already have significant long-term money committed on the left side with Hampus Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov.
Adding Nurse would lock up the left side even further until his contract expires in 2030, when he will be 35 years old.
With recent reports from @JasonGregor and @TheFourthPeriod that Darnell Nurse has added Boston to his trade list, I have my thoughts.

1. Hampus Lindholm is a roster spot you should be willing to upgrade. He’s been I jury prone in his career, he’s on the back 9, making $6.5m for…
He is entering the fifth season of his eight-year, $74 million contract at a $9.25 million cap hit.
GM Don Sweeney acknowledged the blue line is an area he has to address but did not commit to it as his top priority.
"It's the focal point that we have to continue to get better," Sweeney said Saturday. "Whether that's internal growth, we've had guys, Mason Lohrei did a good job playing over on the right side. We could leave as is, but that's not how we're wired and how we're built."
The Cap Picture
Boston's ability to take on Nurse is also tighter than it appears.
After acquiring JJ Peterka from Utah on Friday, the Bruins have roughly $7.7 million in remaining cap space for 2026-27, which means making the money work would be difficult unless salary goes back to Edmonton or the Oilers retain a portion of the contract.
Sportsnet's Ryan Dixon proposed a framework centered on Mason Lohrei going to Edmonton, which would give the Oilers a 25-year-old cost-controlled defenseman as the headlining return while opening cap space for Boston.
Dixon noted Nurse fits Boston's tough-to-play-against identity and would give them another big body alongside Zadorov, but acknowledged the entire scenario remains hypothetical.
