Report: 6 Teams Linked As Multiple Clubs Reach Out To Red Wings on Alex DeBrincat
While Dylan Larkin is the subject of most of the calls being fielded by Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman these days, that's not the only big name that could potentially be on the way out of the Motor City.
As the Detroit Red Wings navigate talks with teams about captain Dylan Larkin, some clubs are also inquiring about the potential availability of sniper Alex DeBrincat. It is unclear if the Red Wings have an appetite to explore a trade involving DeBrincat at this stage, but citing multiple league sources, TFP's David Pagnotta reports teams have reached out.
DeBrincat is eligible for an extension next week, as he heads into the final season of his four-year contract with a $7.875 million cap hit. He does have a 16-team no-trade list.
Coming off a career year, however, The Cat's trade value has never been higher. He tied a personal high with 41 goals (the third time he has done that), along with other career bests of 85 points and a plus/minus rating of +8.
6 teams searching for high-end help for top-six could have DeBrincat on their radar
The Fourth Period lists the Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Seattle Kraken, and Buffalo Sabres as teams that could have interest in DeBrincat, given their search this off-season for a top-line, scoring winger.
The Sabres were just forced to give up Alex Tuch, making their need in the top six something to watch, while the Kraken and Devils have long been searching for more punch up top.
The Blackhawks have the cap room to make DeBrincat a rich long-term offer, as they look for a legit top-line scorer to line up next to Connor Bedard.
The Oilers have been searching for another big-time scorer to join Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman for years now, to no avail.
The Maple Leafs, by all accounts, are set to select elite offensive talent Gavin McKenna with the No. 1 pick in Friday's Entry Draft, but after losing Mitch Marner last year, finding another top offensive weapon is on their target list.
