Insiders Elliotte Friedman and David Pagnotta both dropped the news late Sunday afternoon that the Kraken have re-signed their crucial trade deadline acquisition, avoiding a trip to free agency for McMann.
It's a massive six-year deal at a whopping $5.75M AAV. For context, AFP Analytics had McMann projected at a four-year deal at $5.3M.
Acquired at the trade deadline from the Toronto Maple Leafs, McMann will now be earning four times what he made this past season. The Leafs were said to be balking at a five-year, $5M request from McMann's camp back before the deadline.
He arrived in Seattle and potted eight goals in his first 10 games with the Kraken, on his way to a career-high 29-goal season. The 30-year-old was a late bloomer, and only arrived in the NHL with the Leafs for good a couple of years ago. But he's improved from 15 goals to 20 goals and then 29. And he's now set up for a long time in Seattle.
This follows Seattle's trade with the Florida Panthers for Mackie Samoskevich earlier in the day.
