Maple Leafs Frontrunner For Bobrovsky, Contract Ask Revealed
Sergei Bobrovsky will be a huge name to watch on Wednesday when the Free Agency Frenzy launches into high gear. There are four teams that have been strongly connected to him, but the Toronto Maple Leafs seem to be the frontrunners entering the big day.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the cost of signing the two-time Stanley Cup champion is also now coming into view:
Heard Edmonton had interest, but I’ve honed in on Toronto. Believe his last ask of Florida was three years, $21 million. So I’d expect the overall dollars to come in around there.
It seems that the 37-year-old netminder has come down significantly on his original demands. All accounts had him asking the Florida Panthers for a six-year deal worth over $40 million. So while the AAV remains the same, a three-year settlement would cut the commitment—and his signing cost—in half.Elliotte Friedman believes Sergei Bobrovsky’s next contract will be worth around $20 million total. 💰👀

Some would say it still seems like a hefty amount for an aging goalie who posted the worst numbers of his career with an .877 save percentage and a 3.07 goals against average. But he has had a legendary career, with the two Cups, two Vezina Trophies, a .912 Sv% and is the active leader among all NHL goalies with 456 wins in his 16 seasons.
