Ominous Prediction For Cutter Gauthier Come Training Camp: NHL Analyst

The Cutter Gauthier situation in Anaheim is getting more and more concerning with each passing day. We shared the report earlier this week that the Ducks' restricted free agent turned down a huge extension offer already.

Now, according to hockey analyst Steve Peters, appearing on Daily Faceoff's Morning Cuppa Hockey, the contract dispute will almost certainly lead to the 41-goal scorer holding out from Ducks' training camp next month.

Colby Cohen asked Peters, flatly, 'Will Cutter Gauthier be on the ice on Day 1 of training camp for the Ducks?'

"No, he's not on the ice. This will be the first holdout in camp that we've seen in a while. I don't think he's there to play. I think he's digging his heels in, and unfortunately Anaheim's in a position... they're backed up against the wall because of the contract that they've given Carlsson. I think they need to be firm."

Is a Cutter Gauthier trade looming for the Ducks?

Then Peters went one step further:

"And how about this? The only way he's in training camp on opening day is if he is on a different team."

With his first-line center Leo Carlsson receiving an $18 million AAV this summer, thanks to the offer sheet they matched from the Philadelphia Flyers, Gauthier is looking for his piece of the pie, as well. And he wants a big, tasty slice.

The $13M AAV he was reportedly offered was likely nowhere close to what Gauthier is looking for, with rumors running anywhere from $15M (the same as what Connor Bedard got) all the way up to the same $18M given Carlsson.

Training camp for the Ducks begins in less than four weeks, in mid-September.

Will #61 be on hand?
