The New York Rangers have locked down a piece that was acquired in a trade from the Carolina Hurricanes last season

Defenseman Scott Morrow, who was selected 40th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft. Morrow, until he arrived in New York, had played only 16 games in two seasons with the Hurricanes.

However, with the Rangers, he got a longer look in 2025-26, playing 29 games and scoring six points (six assists).

He's been one of the Blueshirts' most promising prospects in recent years, and after trading K'Andre Miller to the Carolina Hurricanes. Attached was a 2026 1st-round pick and a conditional 2026 2nd-round pick.

The one-year, two-way contract gives Morrow another chance to carve out a full-time role in the Rangers system. The Rangers prospect will be paid $800K at the NHL level and $125K average annual value in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Morrow's career in the NHL hasn't fully peaked yet, as he's only played 45-games total as a depth defenseman who is continuing to grow and develop.

According to Mike Sullivan, he's looking for more decisiveness in the modern defenseman's game and less hesitation.

New York. Rangers coach Mike Sullivan was recently quoted as saying that he is looking for decisive, hesitation-free play from Morrow. Though he has not looked poor in his limited NHL action thus far with the Rangers this season, it is evident that Morrow, the Summer trade acquisition, is still trying to find his game and his confidence at the NHL level. Known for his offensive skillset, the next stretch of games presents an excellent opportunity for Morrow to showcase his game, and in Fox’s absence, he may even get some regular power play time, as well.
