Detroit Red Wings Finally Name General Manager

Horcoff had been the assistant GM under the departed Steve Yzerman, and had been running things this summer in his former boss's absence. But now he'll officially take on the Interim GM title, and the Wings can get back to business.
But owner Chris Ilitch says the process continues to fill the position on a full-time basis. And as Elliotte Friedman notes, Horcoff is a contender for that spot, and now "he gets the test drive."
He'll have to put it in gear pretty quickly, as his top priorities as training camp approaches on Thursday are to get top RFA Simon Edvinsson signed to a new deal, and then after that, he can figure out what to do with the Dylan Larkin situation.
The captain was stripped of his 'C' last week, as he had asked for a trade out of town this summer. No deals have been close, and Horcoff will have to get his hands dirty with that.

Horcoff, 47, played 15 years in the NHL, with the Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks. He has been in the Red Wings’ front office since 2016, first as director of player development, then as AGM.
