Rumor: Goaltender Finished With Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers are expected to make several changes across their lineup before next season and one name you can cross off their roster is goaltender Mikko Koskinen. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, he expects general manager Ken Holland to buy out the final year of his contract.

The 32-year-old Koskinen has one season left that sees him make $4.5 million. This number is certainly overvalued and it's not Holland's fault at all, as the netminder was signed before he arrived in Edmonton. Last season Koskinen recorded a 3.17 GAA and a .899 save%.

The Oilers are expected to make some trade calls to see if there is any interest in acquiring Koskinen from other teams which would be beneficial financially for the franchise. If they can get someone to take the goalie off their hands, even if they retain 50% of his contract, at least he will be off the books after next season. Keep an eye on the Oilers, they have some big decisions to make as they look to retool for next season.
