3 Moves The Minnesota Wild Should Make This Off-Season

The Minnesota Wild have already shocked the NHL world when they bought out Ryan Suter and Zach Parise from their monstrous contracts. However, by doing this, they were able to protect Matt Dumba and Jordan Greenway in the Expansion Draft. This move also gives them a lot of money to work with this off-season. After the solid season they had this year, expectations are high for them to do the same yet again.

Here are three moves they should make to remain competitive.

Re-Sign RFA Kirill Kaprizov: The Minnesota Wild and Kirill Kaprizov have yet to agree to an extension. Kaprizov has already rejected a monstrous 8-year, $72 million offer, as he wants less term to term so he can make even more in the future. If he continues to be against a long-term deal, the Wild will need to just give him less years at this point. They can't lose this year's Calder Memorial Trophy winner to the KHL after just one season.

Re-Sign RFA Kevin Fiala: Kaprizov isn't the only important RFA who needs a new contract from the Wild. Kevin Fiala is also coming off of an impressive season. In 50 games, he had 20 goals and 40 points and is an important top-six winger for them. If possible, the Wild should look to sign him for multiple seasons, as he is still just 25-years-old and has plenty of time left in his prime.

Sign At Least One Left-Handed Defenseman: The Wild have lost both Suter and Carson Soucy this summer. Therefore, they have two big holes in their defensive group that need to be filled. Ian Cole could be brought back on a cheap deal, but even then, they still need one more left-handed defenseman. There are plenty of players available via free agency who can slot into their lineup. Some potential options include Alex Goligoski and Ryan Murray.
