Intriguing New Team Emerges As Suitor for Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau

With just one year remaining on his six-year deal with a $5 million cap hit, and no extension talks forthcoming, it appears that Jean-Gabriel Pageau has seen his last days as a New York Islander. The team needs to free up cap space in order to sign a slew of their own UFAs and RFAs this summer before even considering the external market.

Pageau was the subject of trade talks back at the deadline, and has been linked to several teams around the NHL already this offseason. We're now getting word of another intriguing team emerging as a suitor.

According to Stefen Rosner, writing in The Elmonters, the Boston Bruins have now inquired about the Islanders' two-way center.

The Bruins currently have three centers that would seemingly take up spots in their top-nine, with Pavel Zacha, Elias Lindholm and Casey Mittelstadt, so adding a middle-six pivot like Pageau could make for some interesting lineup moves, which could include shifting one of the aforementioned to the wing.

Pageau is an ideal 3C, with solid defensive skills and the ability to consistently add a bit of offense. He finished second in the NHL in faceoff win percentage this past season, at 59.6%, and set a career-high with 28 assists while adding 14 goals for 42 points.

It should be noted that Pageau does have a 16-team no-trade clause, so the 32-year-old does have at least partial control of his own destiny.
