NHL Free Agency: Brock Boeser sweepstakes down to 3 teams
Brock Boeser is one of the most skilled forwards on the free-agent market, and there's going to be plenty of interest Tuesday at noon, once offers can officially be signed. The Vancouver Canucks appear to have zero chance of bringing back Boeser, who wasn't overly thrilled with how he was treated during his tenure with the franchise.
Boeser hits the free-agent market coming off a 25-goal season, in which he finished with 50 points in 75 games. The 28-year-old winger is a former 2015 first-round pick and has played his entire career with the Canucks, collecting 434 points in 554 career regular season games, and meanwhile has added another 23 points in 29 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
As far as potential destinations, Boeser is expected to receive solid offers from the Winnipeg Jets, Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers, and was on the radar of the Minnesota Wild, before Vladimir Tarasenko wound up joining the Wild the day before free agency opens.
Boeser could go a shorter term deal with a higher AAV, or settle for a seven-year extension at a lesser AAV, to ensure his job security and maximize the lump sum of his contract, which could be one of the last multi-year deals he signs in the NHL.
The Canucks are a bit of a mess now, but they've made it clear they aren't going to overspend on Boeser. They also have Quinn Hughes to worry about, as he's reportedly made it clear to management he'd like to be dealt to the New Jersey Devils to join his brothers.
