Breaking: Kings and RFA Laferrière Come To Terms on New Deal
The Los Angeles Kings and promising forward Alex Laferriere have come to terms on a new three-year deal, worth $12.3 million ($4.1 million cap hit). The 23-year-old was the team's only key restricted free agent this summer.

He'll be an RFA once again when the deal is done in 2028, and just one year from unrestricted free agency.
AFP Analytics calls this a fair deal; they had projected a two-year deal at $3.8M AAV, or a long-term contract of seven years at $6.57M annually. The consulting firm, in fact, questions why the Kings didn't go the distance with the player.
Alex Laferriere re-signs with #LAK 3 years, $4.1M. This is very fair for a short-term contract. One extra year, slightly higher AAV. We'd question the logic of not using their cap space now to try to get a longer term deal done. Could be an issue for the next contract. pic.twitter.com/56g352vKGU

Laferriere had a strong second season in the NHL, bumping up his production from 12 goals in his rookie year to 19, and his points jumped from 23 to 42. In addition, his two-way play elevated to a whole other level, as his plus/minus rating was +22 in 77 games.
The speedy middle-six forward "cemented himself as one of the most active transition players and stuff-doers in the league," per JFresh.
He'll return to play the right side once again on the Kings' excellent second line with Quinton Byfield and Kevin Fiala.
