Winnipeg Jets: Best Addition & Worst Subtraction Of 2025 NHL Offseason

Nikolaj Ehlers, Winnipeg Jets

The NHL season is just about here, which is undoubtedly exciting news for hockey fans. Due to this, we here at NHL Trade Rumors will be starting a series looking at each team's best addition and worst subtraction of the 2025 NHL off-season.

To kick off the series, let's take a look at the Winnipeg Jets.

Best Addition: Jonathan Toews

The Jets made a few additions this off-season, like Gustav Nyquist and Tanner Pearson. However, Jonathan Toews is undoubtedly the most notable of the bunch, as the Jets have brought in a three-time Stanley Cup champion and future Hall of Famer. Toews has not played in two straight seasons, so he naturally will have some rust to shake off, but the potential for him to be a strong addition to the Jets' roster is undoubtedly there. He should give the Jets' depth down a middle a strong boost and could very well be their second-line center.

Worst Subtraction: Nikolaj Ehlers

While signing the hometown kid in Toews is certainly a nice story from the Jets' off-season, it is clear that the loss of Nikolaj Ehlers is easily the biggest storyline from Winnipeg's summer. The star winger signed with the Carolina Hurricanes in free agency, and the Jets were unable to find a proper replacement for him. They will certainly miss him in their top six next season, especially when noting that he had 24 goals and 63 points in 69 games last season.
