3 Potential Trade Destinations for Sabres' Devon Levi

Keep an eye on the Buffalo Sabres moving goaltender Devon Levi.

Recently, hockey insider Jeff Marek mentioned Levi as a potential trade candidate, and given the start the Sabres have had this season, and their lack of trade candidates with high-end potential, moving Levi in a package could give them a return of a top-six forward they desperately crave.

There's another name...for me there's a ton of questions...Devon Levi; that is one that's under the radar right now; it does very much sound like there's something there.

Levi is 2-0-0 to start the season with the AHL's Rochester Americans, and is coming off a 25-13-4 season, in which he posted an impressive 2.20 GAA and .919 save percentage. This is Levi's fourth season with the Sabres' organization, and to this point, he only has 39 games of NHL experience. No wonder he's frustrated.

As far as potential destinations go, these three teams make sense:

Edmonton Oilers

Stuart Skinner isn't going anywhere, but it certainly feels like the Oilers are searching for 'the next one' in net. Both Skinner and Cal Pickard are pending unrestricted free agents, and while some feel the Oilers don't need elite goaltending to win the Stanley Cup, they need deeper organizational depth at the position, and Levi would certainly be a giant upgrade, and someone who would give them some hope.

Utah Mammoth

The Mammoth and Sabres have completed some business together recently, and there's certainly a chance another trade goes down. Utah needs more depth in net and Levi could be given a chance to prove himself for the Mammoth, and become a tandem partner for Karel Vejmelka, who signed a long-term contract over the summer. Vitek Vanecek, however, has just one season left and would be someone Levi could easily replace for the 2026-27 season.

Colorado Avalanche

The Avs need a tandem partner for Mackenzie Blackwood moving forward, and the 23-year-old Levi could be the perfect candidate. He could be given 20-25 starts next season, while Blackwood handles the majority of the workload, and Levi could see how his game holds up with a strong team, and defense corps in front of him. Playing anywhere outside of Buffalo's organization would be a huge win for Levi's career.
