NHL Rumors: Alex Tuch Linked To Surprising Destination He Has Personal Ties To

Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch celebrates goal during 2025 game.

Alex Tuch’s future in Buffalo is suddenly must-watch.

Multiple insiders say the Buffalo Sabres could entertain moves if another slow start drags into American Thanksgiving, and Alex Tuch’s lack of an extension has naturally pulled the Vancouver Canucks into the rumor mill. Tuch, a 29-year-old power winger with back-to-back 30-goal form and a $4.75M cap hit, checks a lot of Vancouver boxes: size, speed, north-south forecheck, and finishing ability.

There’s also a personal tie that fuels speculation, as his wife is from British Columbia, which makes the Canucks chatter more than routine name-dropping.

Canucks’ fit: middle-six punch now, lineup flexibility later

Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has been canvassing for ways to juice the top nine, with an “impact center” the stated priority.

He can ride shotgun with Elias Pettersson, drive a second unit on the power play, and slide up or down as matchups shift. If Vancouver can structure value without raiding its NHL core, Tuch offers immediate middle-six scoring and the kind of board-work that travels in tight series.

Sabres’ leverage and the Oilers variable

For the Buffalo Sabres, there’s no panic. Talks with Tuch haven’t collapsed, and both sides have kept the door open.

But leverage shifts quickly if the standings sag and the calendar turns to December without a deal. That’s when contenders circle. The Edmonton Oilers have been floated as another logical suitor given their cap room and need for a finishing, forechecking winger to flank Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl.

Any sweepstakes will run through Tuch’s partial protection and the Sabres’ price, and both Vancouver and Edmonton would need to make the math and the assets work.

If Buffalo stays in the hunt or gains traction on term, the rumors cool. If not, Tuch becomes a midseason prize.
