NHL Rumors: Insider Says No Chance This One Team Trades For Jordan Kyrou

St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou lines up for faceoff during 2025 game.

The Toronto Maple Leafs need a jolt up front, but it will not be Jordan Kyrou.

On The Jeff Marek Show, insider Jeff Marek flatly said there is no chance the St. Louis Blues winger lands in Toronto.

Marek pointed to the obvious complication. Craig Berube is the Maple Leafs head coach and he previously coached Kyrou in St. Louis. That history makes a reunion in Toronto highly unlikely.

Why Jeff Marek Shut the Door on a Leafs Move for Kyrou

Marek noted that Toronto could use Kyrou’s speed, yet he ruled the idea out because of the coach. Berube and Kyrou had a publicized rough patch before Berube’s firing in December 2023, which Kyrou later addressed with an apology.

Marek joked he would love to hear the conversation where Brad Treliving pitches Berube on bringing Kyrou in, then added he simply does not see it happening. Elliotte Friedman and Greg Wyshynski echoed the tone that any Leafs pursuit is a nonstarter.

Kyrou’s name resurfaced in rumors after a recent healthy scratch, followed by a response goal in a clutch moment that reminded everyone why teams call on him. The Blues are listening on various players as they assess their direction.

Multiple insiders say other clubs have checked in on Kyrou. Seattle reportedly explored a deal at last year’s draft and could revisit interest. Friedman added that with the cap rising and Kyrou’s contract structured with lower real cash in coming years, he may look more attractive to some teams.

Where St. Louis Stands and Why a Trade is Tricky

Kyrou is in year three of an eight-year, 65 million dollar contract. His no-trade clause kicked in on July 1, which complicates any blockbuster. St. Louis is open for business, but sources describe their approach as more strategic rather than a fire sale. The Blues have fielded interest on several veterans while continuing to evaluate whether a reset or a retool makes more sense.

If Kyrou moves, the market points elsewhere, not to Toronto.
