Nashville Predators' Saros Becoming Trade Candidate
The Nashville Predators have the most games played in the NHL (18) and have the third-fewest points with a record of 5-9-4. Two seasons ago seemed like a fluke that sent the team into a buying spree and it hasn't turned out the way the Predators wanted, struggling mightily last season and having a repeat of that this time around.
It is time for the Predators to give up on the hope of winning with this core, where half of them were acquired in the 2024 offseason. Some aren't working out, whether that be a career decline or just the team, but trades are going to have to be made and a rebuild happen.
Jeff Marek said, "I do wonder about Juuse Saros as well. If the Predators are going to go through a rebuild, I think you have that conversation with the goaltender."
This is a fair statement as Saros is in his prime and is just not getting the help from his team. He has had a great career so far, and despite a poor last season that was brought down by the bad team, he has bounced back to a degree, even though the team is still not good in front of him.
With the cap rising, a $7.74 million AAV contract for a legitimate goaltender in this type of market will be able to be moved. But if Barry Trotz and the Predators are going to be waiting for an outrageous deal, I don't think one will come.
Saros still has seven years left on his deal, but if the Predators are going to be headed in this direction, players like Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Ryan O'Reilly will definitely be moved, while Roman Josi and Filip Forsberg are likely in the same boat as Saros, but with less term on their deals.
