NHL Rumors: New Team Interested in Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz
The Toronto Maple Leafs could consider themselves having a rare “too many goalies” problem with the emergence of Dennis Hildeby. That puts Anthony Stolarz in the rumor spotlight, and Philadelphia is right in the middle of it.
Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos has been beating the drum that Toronto’s crease depth is a legit luxury, and that the right stretch of play could turn Stolarz into a real asset on the market as teams come out of the Olympic break and sprint toward the deadline.
Flyers Goaltending Need Makes Stolarz a Clean Fit
For the Philadelphia Flyers, this is the kind of bet that makes sense because they’re hunting stability in the crease, which is something they've struggled to find for a while now, ever since losing Carter Hart.
Stolarz has the size and experience to handle NHL minutes, and he’s coming off a recent run where he looked more like the goalie teams remember, which would get GMs calling.

Anthony Stolarz has been in trade talks for a few months now.
His outstanding performance against Edmonton, may have increased his value as they won 5-2. He may be a target, but the return must be worth it.

Kypreos put Stolarz on his trade board, which is usually a signal that Toronto is likely at least willing to listen, even if the price swings wildly depending on how Stolarz looks in his next few appearances after the break.
Last year, Stolarz posted a league-best .926 save percentage, 2.14 GAA, four shutouts, and a 21-8-3 record across a career-high 34 games played.
Leafs Goalie Logjam Is the Real Story Behind the Rumor
The Leafs’ leverage comes from the fact that they don’t need to force anything.
If Stolarz strings together strong starts, Toronto can sell a contender on proven depth for a playoff push, and if he doesn’t, they can still ride their internal options without panicking. And, of course, Stolarz is still signed for four more years after this, at a $3.75M AAV, so there's not a ton of urgency to force a move.

Stolarz has really struggled this year, posting an ugly .882 SV%, 3.55 GAA, and a 7-7-1 record over 16 starts.
