3 Goalies Who Are Changing Teams Next Season

Expect to see some goaltenders changing teams this summer.

The NHL's trade market is expected to be as active as ever, as the salary cap has gone up almost $9 million, and several teams have some big decisions to make when it comes to their crease. There's also several free-agent netminders, who won't be welcomed back to their current clubs, so expect to see some teams let their goaltender walk for nothing.

Here's three goaltenders who are changing teams this summer:

Stuart Skinner

The Pittsburgh Penguins almost traded Skinner ahead of the trade deadline, but decided to hold onto him for one playoff run, and that lasted just the first round. Arturs Silovs will be back in Pittsburgh, plus they have two youngsters in the AHL, who will be ready to battle it out for backup minutes next season. Skinner has a ton of playoff experience, and he's going to potentially be the best goaltender on the free-agent market, assuming Sergei Bobrovsky is re-signed by then. Would a return to Edmonton be in the cards?

Jordan Binnington

With Joel Hofer ready to take the starter's crease on a permanent basis, Binnington is expected to be dangled on the trade market at the NHL Draft. He has one year left at $6 million AAV, and owns a 10-team no-trade clause, and even though his numbers may have dropped the last few years, it's on a bad team in St. Louis. Binnington's proved himself twice at the 4 Nations and the Olympics that he can be a number one goalie when it matters most, and while Skinner heading back to Edmonton is a pipedream, Binnington landing with the Oilers is far more realistic.

Samuel Montembeault

With Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler leading the charge during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Montembeault has quickly dropped down the depth chart, and will find himself on the trade market this summer. The 29-year-old has one season left on his deal at just $3.1 million AAV, and he doesn't own any trade protection. Montembeault finished with a 3.43 GAA in 25 games, after making 62 appearances last season. Oh have times have changed. Would Utah make sense, they need a new backup badly.
